Who's My Pretty Baby?

On Saturday, we took our pretty, little babies to see Elizabeth Mitchell in concert. It was Forest's very first concert and Sienna's second time seeing Elizabeth Mitchell. Forest loved listening to the music and Sienna loved climbing and dancing around our bench.

Elizabeth Mitchell sang one of Mama's favorites, "Who's My Pretty Baby" written by Woody Guthrie and Sienna's favorite, "John the Rabbit." I wonder which song will be Forest's favorite?

Also, we guessed right! Forest weighed 16 lbs. 5 oz. at his well baby check-up.

The Morning Line-Up

Sienna loves to sing in the mornings. Our morning line-up consists of the same four songs every day. She is a girl that loves her daily rhythm and routine, even with music!

The morning line-up goes like this:

Song #1 - "California"

Song #2 - "This Flight Tonight"

Song #3 - "River"

Song #4 - "A Case of You"

We both love our Joni Mitchell in the mornings! I can still remember listening to my mom's Joni Mitchell Blue album growing up. I loved the crackling sound her old records would make. I'm happy that I can share this love of music with my own daughter.

The Be Good Tanyas

On Wednesday evening, our little family, Nana, Grandma and Grandpa headed to the Woodland Park Zoo for a concert. One of Mama's very favorite bands, The Be Good Tanyas were playing a concert. Mama tried to go see them the summer that her and Daddy met, but she wasn't able to and this was the first time they started touring again. There music is a mixture of folk, country, and bluegrass.

The Be Good Tanyas were opening for the Carolina Chocolate Drops, an old-time string band. This was our first time hearing them play and we really loved their music, too. Our little family plans to buy some of their music very soon!

It was another very eventful night for Sienna! She loves dancing and listening to live music. But, her favorite event of the night was riding the carousel for the first time.

Sienna's very first Carousel ride!

Going around. Yes, that's Daddy riding a horse, too!

It was a beautiful evening!

Festival of the River, Part 2

Today our little family drove up to the Stillaguamish River for a day of fun. We arrived just in time to see some birds of prey before the Pow Wow began.

We liked this sign.

The Pow Wow begins.
(If you look closely, you can see a bald eagle, a golden eagle, and a falcon.)

Frybread Power!

Sienna fell asleep while we listened to some blues music.

We can't wait for our next concert on Wednesday!!

Festival of the River

Yesterday evening, Mama and Papa headed up to the Stillaguamish River for a little musical festival. Mama was very excited to see Buffy Sainte Marie! She sang the song Cripple Creek on Sesame Street in the late 1970's and even breastfed her baby Cody on the show. Mama thinks she is pretty groovy.

One of the best birthday gifts ever! Thanks, Nana.

In the evening, Big Brother and the Holding Company played. They played one of Mama's favorite songs ever, Me and Bobby McGee. Just wish Janis could have really been there!

By the light of the moon...

We didn't stay for the very last show, which was Canned Heat. But, we would have loved to hear Going up the Country, one of both Mama and Papa's favorite songs. We can't wait to go back for more music and a Pow Wow today. This time the little one will be joining us.

Little Bird, Little Bird

On Saturday, our little family ventured down to Seattle Town Hall to see one of Sienna's favorite musicians, Elizabeth Mitchell. We've been listening to her music since Sienna was just a teeny tiny baby. We have all three of her albums and can't wait to buy the newest album, Sunny Day.

We had a very fun time singing along, clapping and doing hand gestures to some of the songs. Sienna sat on Mama's lap the whole time and listened patiently. She loved that they sang some of her favorite songs, Little Bird, Little Bird and Three Little Birds. We didn't get to hear Sienna's very favorite song, The North Wind from the album You Are My Little Bird. (Hmmm ... I think we may have a birdy theme here.)

Sienna didn't mind though, because she was so busy loving the live music. I think we'll be bringing this little one to many, many future concerts. Even though Daddy was feeling a little bit sick, he also enjoyed the show and especially the guest musical appearance from
Caspar Babypants or Chris Ballew of the presidents of the united states of america.

Sienna was very excited when we stopped the car at Seattle Town Hall!

There was lots of audience involvement for the little ones.

Sienna loves to clap!

Now, to decide which concert will be next ...

Far Away Family & The Other Bob

Sienna's weekend was filled with new experiences and meeting more of Mama's family. On Saturday, we traveled down to Bumbershoot at the Seattle Center for Sienna's first ever concert and to visit with Nana, Great Aunt Carol (Nana's sister) and Cousin Matt.

On the way down we listened to lots of Bob Dylan and The Traveling Wilbury's to prepare Sienna for her first concert. She knows Bob Marley, but this was her first time really listening to Bob Dylan. He is one of Mama's favorite Folk singers. Some of my favorite songs by Bob Dylan are Just Like A Woman, Quinn the Eskimo, I'll Be Your Baby Tonight and It Ain't Me, Babe. We were hoping he would sing some of them!

We arrived at the Seattle Center in the late afternoon, since Bob Dylan didn't go on stage until 9:00pm. It was a very late night for Sienna! The evening was filled with eating burritos and ice cream, dancing to good music, and having fun visiting with family.

On Sunday, Sienna and Mama drove down to Edmonds to spend time with Great Aunt Carol, Matt, Mike and Mike's wife, Laura before they drove back to Utah. Sienna loved playing with the Thomas trains at Nana's and her two playmates Mike and Matt.

We are looking forward to the Mulhall Family Reunion next summer, where Sienna will get to meet even more family from far away places.
