Renovation Journal: The Living Room

We are down to 5 days before we move in and A LOT has been happening at the little white house. I thought I'd start with the biggest room in our home, the living room. The walls were sloppily painted an aqua color and the floors were a vinyl peel & stick that made a funny sound when you walked on them. All of the baseboards, heating vents and some outlet covers were also missing.

Looking toward the front windows and front door.

The other living room windows and vaulted ceilings.

This is the view from the front door when you walk in.

The entry/coat closet.

The day we got our keys, David already had all of the vinyl flooring pulled up and by the next day, I had the ceilings and entry closet painted. We also primed the walls twice before painting. I plan to post photos of the finished living room with the color we chose after the floors are installed next week. Here is a sneak peek of the living room before wall color and after the ceilings were painted. Plus, there's a random bathroom vanity in our living room, along with the old (very crusty) stove and old dishwasher.

After walls primed and ceiling painted.

After walls primed and ceiling painted.

We chose a no VOC/low odor primer and no VOC/low odor paints for the entire house by Yolo Colorhouse, which is available online from Home Depot.

Primer: Yolo Colorhouse Inspired
Ceiling: Yolo Colorhouse Flat Air .01

We are having laminate flooring installed by Home Depot. Also in the plans are priming and painting all of the woodwork white, adding white baseboards, painting the front door white, and new light fixtures.

Next up, I'll share the kitchen tomorrow.

Home, Sweet Home

It's official! Our little family bought our first home.

After lots of searching for the perfect first home for us, we finally have the keys to our own home, sweet home.

We actually had put in an offer on this house (owned by HUD) and it was turned down, so we kept looking and put in an offer on a different house that was sort of far away from everything on Camano Island. About a week later and after our offer was accepted on the   Camano Island house, we heard from HUD that our previous offer on this home was actually accepted. So, we rescinded our offer on the Camano Island house and went forth with the HUD home. It took about a month to get all of our ducks in a row. But, now it's ours and we are down to one week before we actually move in.

A lot of renovation has been going on in the little white house in the neighborhood, as Sienna is calling it. (Remember, we do like to name our homes!) I plan to share photos and stories from our renovation as we make this home our own.

We want to thank everyone, who helped get us here, especially our parents and David's grandpa. Without your love and support (and babysitting) we wouldn't be here. And many thanks to our real estate agent, Machelle, who went with us to lots and lots of houses in Snohomish and Skagit county, as we put in offers on ... (hmmm) 5 houses total I think?
